Ars Electronica 2016

The thirty-seventh edition of the most important new media art festival will take place in Linz, Austria, from 8 to 12 September 2016 .

Ars Electronica Center, Linz

Since 1979, Ars Electronica defends , diffuses and promotes digital art in all its forms. Focused on the relationship between art, technology and science, the festival has quickly gained success and quickly became the flagship event of the digital art world. With a rich program of forums, concerts, conferences and exhibitions, Ars Electronica provides an overview of contemporary exchanges between art and technology.

This year, the festival’s theme will be “Radical Atoms ” and, chaired by Hiroshi Ishii of MIT Lab, it will develop all possible links between the virtual and the physical world.

While the world still has its hands full dealing with the Digital Revolution and the cultural and social transformations and challenges that it’s brought about, a young generation of scientists and creative engineers has set a course for new frontiers and is already at work amalgamating the disembodied world of digital data with the physical world of our bodies. They’re interconnecting bits and atoms in elementary form, fabricating new high-tech materials from natural substances. (…)In close cooperation with Prof. Hiroshi Ishii of MIT Media Lab, the 2016 Ars Electronica Festival will be focusing on this field, one that’s fascinating and challenging for art, technology and society in equal measure.
