Marie Losier, born in France, is a filmmaker and curator who’s worked in New York City for 22 years. She has shown her films and videos at museums, galleries, biennials and festivals. She studied American literature at the University of Nanterre (France) and Fine Arts at Hunter College in New York City. She has made a number of film portraits on avant-garde directors, musicians and composers, such as George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad, Genesis P-Orridge, Alan Vega and Felix Kubin.  Whimsical, poetic, dreamlike and unconventional, her films explore the life and work of these artists. « This photo was taken during the making of my feature film THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE from 2004 to 2011. It was taken in Genesis’s home where I shot most of my film. She lived in a beautiful old Brooklyn house. It was a very hot day and she kept making fun at my dress which she suddenly took and put on her as a neck-piece, then took my mushroom light and used it as a prop. I painted her face white when I saw the look of Genesis and here is the result. »
