City Summits: a new performance by Bertrand Planes in Paris, February 27-28

At the end of 2015 in Paris, Bertrand Planes, in need of high peaks and looking for new territories, decided to climb buildings to regain the sensation of the ascent and began the exploration of the tower near his studio in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Caught at his own game, he finally realized seven round-trips in one hour, the equivalent of 210 floors and 1400m of vertical drop. To notice his effort, he decided to give the building virtually the covered height. He named Mount Rebmann this first exploration, in homage to the friend who gave him the access codes of the building. Since then, building after building he creates new reliefs and lays the groundwork for the principles of indoor climbing.

City Summits is an “urban hiking performance.” On February 27th and 28th, 2017, Bertrand Planes and Emilie Mazeaud will make 1000 stages of climbing in the stairwell of the Novotel Tour Eiffel, 2,917m of positive drop and as much negative level. This event is the setting for a future ascent of 3000 floors, 9km of altitude and 18km of vertical differences, a height exceeding that of Mount Everest.
