Until July 29, 2018, the Musée de la Main in Lausanne proposes a dialogue between art and science with “Dans la tête. Une exploration de la conscience”. The exhibition offers an overview of various scientific approaches exploring the genesis, the presence, the absence or the modification of consciousness.

The exhibition “Dans la tête. Une exploration de la conscience” approaches the theme of consciousness from neurology, psychology, arts, history of science and culture. It invites the visitor to an exciting journey through the meanders of the brain to better understand how our perceptions, illusions, dreams and thoughts are shaped. What is consciousness? When does it emerge? What is the functioning of the unconscious? Interactive modules, forensic imaging, artistic installations and sensory experiences question us about this plural and kaleidoscopic mental process.

Interactive modules propose to integrate the individual experience of each one and promote knowledge through action. The experience of blindness to change shows that the brain constantly constructs the representation of the world around it.

Throughout the exhibition, art installations play with perceptions and explore various states of consciousness. In the sensory creation of the French duo Scenocosme our reflections merge with virtual images and give us the illusion of a distorted reality. The sound installation by Rudy Decelière, composed of dozens of music boxes, offers the visitor a pause, a listening and meditative contemplation on the threshold of an inner world. In the artistic universe of Camille Scherrer our imagination is superimposed on reality and enriches the world with the product of our fantasy.
