The artistic statement of Mériol Lehmann has always been about themes related to his expatriate status. This brought a deep fascination about territory, especially towards the feedback loop between humans and the geographic space they live in....
The artworks in this collection represent various trends in media arts: installations, kinetic sculptures, interactive and light pieces, digital images… Each one, in its own field, represents the culmination of contemporary esthetics, without overplaying the technology required to realize it...
At Variation, there are no stands, so that the artworks are “free” to dialogue among themselves. The other characteristic of this exhibition is that all the pieces were selected by independent art critic and curator Dominique Moulon, in direct collaboration with the artists and their galleries or agents and producers.
I have always felt more enriched working with the artists, rather than simply writing about them. For me, an exhibition is not a final goal but a platform where each player enriches their sensory knowledge and collectively participates in opening up new ways of perceiving and acting in society, faced with our accelerated world. These are the mutual cosmic exchanges that give artworks their “value”…
