“Space Oddity”: François Ronsiaux, Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves and Joanie Lemercier showcased during the Month of Photography in Paris

For the Month of Photography 2017, François Ronsiaux, Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves et Joanie Lemercier will be among the artists selected during the exhibition “Space Oddity” at the Maison des Arts de Créteil, and at the Galerie Plateforme.

Curator of the exhibition: François Ronsiaux

An exploration of the representations of fantasy, abstraction, or allegories of the future and space by a dozen of photographers and sculptors, all of which stand on the frontiers of their own medium.

Two spaces: photography at the Maison des Arts of Créteil, and sculpture at Plateforme in Paris.

Inspired by the legendary Stanley Kubrick’s film, and David Bowie’s musical version, Space Oddity tries to lose physical and spatial benchmarks by rejecting the conventional codes used by the artists presented and the singularity of their proposals. Not fixed in a conventional plasticity of representations of space, universe and science fiction, the works evoke utopia, fantasy, but also the illusion and the questioning of the self, in an era where the shifting and uncontrollable immensity of space is an acquired value. The time in which the theory of the original instant of the universe itself, and with it the general relativity of Einstein, could potentially be replaced by a cyclical phenomenon, constituted by a phase of expansion of the Universe, and a phase of contraction which precedes and follows it. At the time when we speak of the dark matter, antimatter, contraction, cosmic radiation, and quantum, Space Oddity defines a poetic, singular and metaphysical moment T on our relation to space and the way in which it influences our hopes in a resolutely consumerist time.
