Golnaz Behrouznia has always been interested in the natural sciences, in the observation of microscopic life and in life in all its dimensions. Today it is with her artistic vision that she reconnects with her passion for the living. The media she chooses, sculpture, video installation, and drawing, support her idea to create a hybrid world, bringing the biological together with visual art. Read more

Since 2011,  Golnaz Behrouznia has developed a drawing work that includes a set of researches called « Imaginary encyclopedia ». This work is defined as a repertoire of forms with a back and forth between scientific notions and artistic researches. A dialectic is created within her work, it refers to science and biology at the same time, it refers only to itself.

“In a process of artistic work, I develop my questions on different aspects of life through some various representations of imaginary characters. Some creatures that look like physical models like microorganisms and that refer to the biological world. I have sought to put in place a sort of logic of development and a grouping/a classification of these creatures that refers to an imaginary encyclopedia. I create some forms in relation to one another and try to imagine how the shapes in the following steps, resulting from the crossing, the hybridization of the previous ones, would be revealed. A kind of logical structure is organized in the creation process. I start with a general examination of my sources of inspiration and their characteristics in order to collect some information. This starting process leads me to some imaginary proposals that would develop when integrated into reality a possible opening on artistic, but also scientific questions”.
