«I’ve often imagined a city that doesn’t have any visual and auditory symbols around us but we can’t remove the mechanisms constructing our world and we can’t exert even a little influence on the media that were made by those mechanisms. If we have no power to reform our environment, we need to find the possibility of meditation using the signifiers that we already have in our cities. ‘Meditation’ series proposes a practical and alternative meditation that can only work once you let yourself into the sorcery-like symbols. Numerous symbols are compressed into this work. These compressed symbols are expressed by irregular patterns of sound through three audio-visual installations where the sound transforms and visualizes the waves sinking inside. Through compressions and suppressions, the reproduced media provide more possibilities of thinking and more choices than the values contained in its own form. Through these processes, the ‘Meditation’ series can be a right tool for meditation.» Minha Yang
