«Matières Sensibles is a sculpture made of very thin and delicate wood veneer leaf. This ash leaf has distinct sonorous touch-sensitive zones that follow the natural veins of the wood. Our researches have enabled us to develop an artistic and technical process both invisible and delicate. A meticulous and invisible design work gives us the ability to define a musical score spread over different areas of the wood. We invented this process of Bio-Hacking that we call “interactive marquetry”. This sculpture made of wood produce sounds when the spectators touch them. We use sounds to stimulate haptic and gestural behavior. This sculpture offers a sensitive and intimate relationship between the wood and the body of the viewer by revealing a sound memory when there is a physical contact with the matter. Since many years, we invent interactive works, with natural elements and the body of spectators. In this artwork, we use wood as a sensitive interactive surface. The electrostatic energy of the human body acts as a trigger for this artwork. Interactive zones follow exactly the veins of wood.»
